Yearly Bestsellers: Top Cars According to Sales Figures

Every month, the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) publishes its sales report for motor vehicles. While these reports can be complex for the average person to interpret, we're here to simplify things. This blog highlights the best-selling cars based on the latest PAMA report, ranking them from highest to lowest sales. The sales figures are cumulative from June 2022 to May 2023.

Suzuki Alto: Leading the Pack (31,531 Sales)
It's no surprise that the Suzuki Alto tops the list. Despite being heavily criticized by Pakistanis, it remains the most popular car in the market. The Alto's sales figures demonstrate its dominance, leading by a significant margin.

Honda City and Civic: Strong Contenders (10,519 Cumulative Sales)
The combined sales of the Honda City and Honda Civic reached 10,519 units from June 2022 to May 2023. On average, this means around 5,259 units for each model. While it's likely that the City outsold the Civic, PAMA's report doesn't specify individual figures, leaving this detail uncertain.

Toyota Trio: Corolla, Yaris, and Corolla Cross (14,012 Cumulative Sales)
Toyota secures the third spot with a cumulative sale of 14,012 units for the Corolla, Yaris, and Corolla Cross. Each vehicle averaged about 4,670 units sold. Interestingly, Honda has surpassed Toyota in sales, a shift possibly attributed to the high pricing of the Corolla, pushing buyers towards more affordable options like the City.

Suzuki Swift: Feature-Packed Choice (4,628 Sales)
Suzuki makes another appearance with the Swift, which sold 4,628 units. Known for its high-tech features, the Swift is popular among buyers who prioritize advanced amenities over spaciousness. It remains the best option under 5 million PKR for those seeking reliability and standard features.

Suzuki Cultus: Declining Popularity (3,352 Sales)
The Suzuki Cultus, once a top-seller, has seen a drop in sales, recording 3,352 units. Before 2022, it was the second most popular model after the Alto and WagonR. However, significant price hikes due to increased taxes and import duties have dampened its appeal, placing it last on our list.

Suzuki WagonR: A Fading Star (3,223 Sales)
Like the Cultus, the Suzuki WagonR's sales have been affected by a 180% price increase in 2022. Once the second best-selling car after the Alto, the WagonR now struggles to attract buyers, who prefer used cars within a 3 million PKR budget or opt for the Alto to save money.
