Check What Oil You Put in Your Car

There is the sticker on the corner of the windshield of your car to show that you have to do an oil change in your car. Take your car to the mechanic and he will ask you what you want to do with your car. You will surely get the oil changed from the shop so you will choose the best quality oil for your car, which can increase its functionality.

You can find different types of motor oil, which ranges from full synthetic to good, old, conventional motor oil. You can understand the difference between the motor oil choices, which can be best choices for your car.

Four Options

You can find four types of motor oil, which are considered on the basis of their composition.

1. Synthetic
This motor oil was developed in 1929 as the alternative to the conventional oils and the synthetic oils are added with refined mineral oil, which are derived from the crude oil. The oils are highly refined and they are engineered chemically to perform highly at the extreme high and low temperature. These particles are present in uniform shape and size and they can lubricate the engine components. There are very few impurities in the synthetic oil and they do not need to be change.
2. Synthetic Blend
This type of oil is the mixture of synthetic oil and conventional oil. These oils cost less than the synthetic oil but it gives excellent performance at the low temperature. When you compare this oil to the conventional motor oils, it provides more resistance to the oxidation. The blend oil is the popular choice for light trucks and SUVs and they provide superior engine protection to the vehicles, which carry heavy loads.
3. High-mileage
This type of oil is formulated for use in the vehicles, which can give 75,000 miles or more on odometer. It is added with seal conditioners to help preventing rubber seals cracks and they lead to the oil leaks. You can maintain the seals and keep oil from burned in engine in order to produce smoke. There are some other additives in high-mileage oil, which remove the oil sludge to build up in the engine and other components over time. You want to consider the high mileage oil, when you see the oil spots under your car or hear the rattling in engine.
4. Conventional
This type of oil is the conventional oil, which our forefathers also used in their vehicles but it has been improved since then. This type of oil is excellent and is expensive and readily available. It does not need to change than synthetic or synthetic blend oils. The conventional oil works best to push or drive the car to the limit.

Oil Rating System

The Society of Automotive Engineers has developed the rating system in order to compare the performance of different brand and types of the motor oil. It offers key pieces of information about oil, which is easy to read format. The SAE rating shows the form “AW-XX” in which ‘A’ shows the viscosity of oil in cold weather and ‘W’ stands for ‘Winter’ and ‘X’ gives the viscosity at operating or high temperatures.

What is viscosity?

Viscosity is the resistance of the fluid to flow and it is so thick that it resists changing the shape to flow. The high viscosity fluid is considered as honey and it moves slowly at the room temperature. If you split it up on the table, it does not spread on the table before you clean it up. Water has low viscosity and it flows smoothly, when you split it up on the table.

Why does oil viscosity matter?

The think motor oil can have high viscosity and it flows slowly on the system of the car at the low temperature. If the oil flows slower, it will not lubricate the engine well. The oil is heated to the operating temperatures in order to decrease the viscosity of oil, which can allow the oil to flow freely and reaches to all parts of the engine and cool and clean the engine. Thick motor oil is enough for the cars, where thinner oil might become too thin during summer season.

The best motor oil for the winter season must have low viscosity. When the engine becomes warm, this oil can flow through the system of the car, lubricate the friction points and it assist in warming up of the engine and it also increases the fuel economy. This type of oil will work better than oil at the rating of 10W – 30 during the cold climate.

Which oil is right for my car?

You need to fine which oil works best for you by the determining of the recommendations of the car manufacturer for any specific vehicle. You can get information from your mechanics as they have enough experience on many makes and models of the vehicles.

You should know what type of oil is used in your vehicle and you can use the recommendations of your manufacturer and the oil rating system of SAE. The oil will protect your engine from any further damage and corrosion and you need to consult with the expert mechanics, who can suggest you best about the oil.
